Modern Figure

Figurative paintings by Samuel Gillis of Gillis Fine Art

For many years I have worked with the figure in my paintings in all it’s forms.  Studying the angles of the figure with the shadows and detail along with the highlights helped to create many plans to work from to paint and capture everyday life as we see it and to create that special artwork.  I have been studying the human form for most of my career as an artist from realism painting to the modern art technique.  I started working with a master painter named Eddwin Meyers who was taught in France classical painting.  Eddwins knowledge and drive created the Atelier Alternative where an artist had a chance to learn skills and master the painters approach to the figure.  I was lucky to have knowledge of the classical painters approach from past artists that yearned to make that perfect painting.  It helped me to drive my own skill of how to paint the human form which in turn developed me into a well rounded and skilled Contemporary artist.  To this day the figure is prominent in my paintings and has developed an edgy style of high texture and vibrant color use that will be constantly changing as I express my deeper understanding of the human form.
